Many, many people are very talented but are unable to show their best to the world because they are self-conscious. Self-consciousness can be something which you carry along since childhood or something that develops due to a certain incident. You could be conscious for various reasons like your appearance, your speech, your voice, your habits, your dressing sense, your fears or may be even the lack of certain abilities. Here are a few tips to overcome self-consciousness:-

1. Identify and accept

First and foremost, identify the reason behind your self-consciousness. Once identified, don’t hesitate to accept it and make effort to overcome it. Listing down the reasons and causes is a good start to the process.

2. Don’t feel shy to take help

If you feel that your consciousness is because of your dressing sense or your intellectual abilities or may be because you are shy to open up in public, share it with a person you trust. Take help from him/her to improve. Even if you have to take professional help, don’t hesitate. Remember you amongst the millions are the brave one to accept and act upon it.

3. Never draw comparisons

Have you suddenly become self-conscious because of new surroundings? Do you get the feeling that all your workplace colleagues are better than you? If yes, always keep in mind that each and every individual is different and has his/her own talents. Just because you are unable to do something what Mr. A does, doesn’t mean you are incapable.

4. Divert your mind

The time you start to feel conscious, focus your attention on something or someone around you. Concentrate elsewhere and divert your mind. This will gradually help to overcome self-consciousness.

5. Self-talk

Stand in front of the mirror and talk to yourself. Tell yourself repeatedly that you are the best, that you can achieve anything, and overcome any hurdle. Self-motivation is the best solution as it will change your thinking from within.

6. Improve your listening skills

Listening to others carefully and learning from how they talk and what they talk will help you overcome self-consciousness due to speech.

7. Don’t try to please everyone

If you get nervous and self-conscious in an effort to keep everyone around you happy, stop worrying about what others think of you. Just be who you are.
