All you Wanted to Know About Setting Goals in Life
Goals define life to a large extent. It is perhaps the determining factor of your very existence and keeps you going every day. When you cease to have goals, you feel empty and life loses significance. While some goals are conscious like those of career and material needs, some others are not given even a fleeting thought. But our minds and bodies are programmed to inadvertently fulfill them.
The latter happens usually with no choice offered but the former is specifically and distinctly charted by you and must be done in order to run your life successfully and effectively. Few of these goals are universally followed. These include the need to take up a job to have a fulfilling career and enough money, settling down with a family to satisfy the need for emotional fulfillment, obtaining and maintaining basic amenities with luxury for convenience and similar other goals.
While these are mandatory and set by most people, there are other equally or more important goals in life. Many of these are predominantly long term and dependent upon how you project and express yourself. The upkeep or maintenance of these goals is solely dependent upon you, your thoughts, your actions and reactions. Few of these goals include
1. To be considered trustworthy, honest, helpful and wise. When people around you consider you with these attributes, you are catapulted to a different level and the need to satisfy your ego is fulfilled.
2. To serve as a lesson or role model. Being selfless, devoted and committed to people and the work that you do will double your honor and dignity in the eyes of others.
Interestingly, many of us unconsciously indulge in these aspects but at times, we tend to get deviated. If you want to be genuine and pursue your goals with utmost interest, it is important to keep track and get back into the path of pursuit of excellence.
Goals can also be categorized into smart and wise goals. Smart goals stand for specific, measurable, action oriented, realistic and time bound objectives. Wise goals stand for written, integrated, synergistic and expansive objectives. Classifying your life’s goals into these categories will help in dealing and handling them appropriately and suitably.
The purpose of a goal is to help in sorting out the clutter in every confused mind and assist in the job of focusing. Goals could be random or specific and irrespective of their nature, they offer us with the need to live and lead life beautifully.
