“What’s the point of having loads of success when one hasn’t tasted the bitterness of failure? Isn’t failure a necessity of life too?”, pondered Renee, 46. “Why do you say that mom?”, asked her daughter Cynthia, 20. “Aren’t success and failure the exact opposite of each other?”, she asked. “Yes they are, so to say. But the irony is that one gives rise to the other. It’s a vicious cycle”, answered Renee. Cynthia was looking totally confused. Are you confused as well?

Here are top 5 reasons why we agree with Renee and endorse the fact that failure is a necessity in life.

1. Failure will help you appreciate success better

“Failure is a necessity of life because it teaches you the value of success. All the perks, benefits, comforts and luxuries that you get after having failed a thousand times make success taste much sweeter”, said Renee. “Ask anyone who is born with a silver spoon. Do they really care if they have one Mercedes in their parking lot or ten? It just doesn’t matter to them because they haven’t taken pains to earn it”, exclaimed Renee. “Well, I agree with you mom. In that sense, failure is a necessity in life”, said Cynthia.

2 . Failure will help you learn more

“Cynthia, do you remember learning how to ride a bike when you were young?”, asked Renee. “Of course mom. How can I forget? I bruised my knee so many times”, Cynthia replied. “But you ended up riding the bike like a pro right?”, asked Renee. “Oh, now I understand why you keep saying that failure is a necessity of life. If I didn’t fall again and again, I would have never learnt how to ride a bike”, said Cynthia. Now do you now agree friends that failure is necessary in life?

3. Failure will help you discover new things

“Why do you think I keep saying to you that failure is a necessity in life, Cynthia?”, asked Renee. Cynthia nodded in confusion. “That’s because I want you to make mistakes and gather new experiences”, she said. “Yeah mom, I did read somewhere recently that the common thing about all great men and women in the world is failing again and again, trying again and again and rising to success from it”, replied Cynthia. “Exactly darling. I want you to experiment with things and few decisions in your life all by yourself. Only then will you realize why failure is a necessity in life”, asserted Renee.

4. Failure helps you bring out your true character

“Mom, do you know why I think failure is a necessity in life?”, asked Cynthia. “Because it brings out your true character”, she added. “Do you accept failure with grace or do you crumble beneath its pressure? Do you spring back in action or do you sulk for months together? These are the questions that failure helps you answer”, Cynthia continued. “Wow Cynthia. You’re absolutely right. I am glad you’ve started looking at failure as a necessity of life, just like me”, affirmed her mother.

5. Failure teaches you how stick to your choices

“Cynthia, this is one of the most important reasons why failure is a necessity in life. It will make your will power of sticking to your choice much stronger”, explained Renee. “I had a friend who started out his own business many years ago which didn’t do very well. Everyone ridiculed him. This made his wish for succeeding even stronger”, she added. “Hey, that’s a totally cool reason why failure should be a necessity of life!”, said Cynthia. “I’m going to be like that friend of yours too, mom!”, she added.
