You know that you have lost focus on your future when your mind keeps wavering, you keep doing things that you are not supposed to do and you have no motivation to succeed. Here are some easy ways in which you can remain focused on the future and not get distracted by things going on around you.

1. Write all your goals down

You can stay focused on the future by writing your goals down. Keep a separate notepad for this and pen down all the goals for your future. Keep this notepad on your bedside table or your study desk so that you can keep revisiting your goals every now and then. Feel free to add or take away some of the goals depending on your progress.

2. Write your goals on a paper and stick it up somewhere in your room

An easy way to be reminded of your future constantly is to write down your future goals and stick that piece of paper up in your room. This will be a constant reminder to you and you will start thinking about your future every time you see that paper, whether it is the time you get out of bed or the time when you are watching TV.

3. Maintain specific goals for the future

Try to be specific every time you set goals for the future. Vague goals can make you lose your focus easily. For example, instead of setting a goal that you want to be rich, set a goal that you want to earn a specific amount of money in a specific amount of time. As another example, instead of setting a goal that you want to study a lot, set a goal that you want to study a specific number of subjects within a specific number of months. This will help you to be goal oriented every time you think about your future.

4. Celebrate your achievements

Whenever you make small achievements, celebrate them. Your journey to your future goals is incomplete without these small achievements. Celebrating them will help you remain focused on the bigger picture and remind you that there are more achievements to be made in order to get to the point where you want to be. Whether it is getting good marks on a test or completing a project at work in the given time, celebrating these small achievements will motivate you to push yourself further.

5. Keep in touch with friends who have similar future plans

Do you have friends who have similar future plans to yours? Or colleagues whose career goals are similar to yours? You can stay focused about the future by keeping in touch with such people. Discuss each others’ progress and take notes from achievements made by them. This will make your journey a little more competitive which will be good for you in the long run.

6. Take time out to reflect and assess your progress

When you are chasing future goals, you need to take time out to reflect on how you are progressing. Spare a day in the week, preferably a Sunday, when you can put all your work or studies aside and just reflect on your progress. This will help you piece everything together and re-focus on your future by aligning your goals with your current actions. Make sure that you have no distractions or other worries while you are reflecting on your progress, so that you have an objective and precise approach to this activity.
